KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) — A woman was arrested in Kill Devil Hills after a K-9 unit alerted officers to the presence of a controlled substance in her vehicle during a traffic stop, deputies said.

On Wednesday, around 9:15 p.m., deputies from created a checkpoint on Colington Road, near the First Flight Airstrip.

Officers did license checks on drivers driving illegally. One woman was pulled over and a K-9 unit was deployed. After alerting officers to the presence of a controlled substance, officer searched the vehicle.

They found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, which were seized as evidence. The driver was also assessed for driving under the influence of drugs by a Drug Recognition Expert.

33-year-old Sarah Gist was arrested and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and DWI-Drugs. Gist was issued a $5,000 secured bond.
