PASQUOTANK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – While both men wanted in connection to a vehicle pursuit Tuesday in Pasquotank County have now been arrested and are in custody, the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office was back out Thursday looking for evidence.

Sean Mulford, identified as the passenger in the a reported stolen 2001 Ford F350 Super Duty vehicle, was arrested Tuesday evening and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor resist, delay and obstruct.

Mulford was found after a foot search by deputies and aided by drones with flir thermal cameras and a police tracking K-9, which ended at the edge of a swamp at the end of Pritchard Road, where the sheriff’s office said Mulford had entered the swamp heading toward Scott Road.

The sheriff’s office said Mulford was found at 8:09 p.m., where he had exited the swamp and entered Bray Estates subdivision. He was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit, the sheriff’s office said.

“He kind of darted back toward the farm here,” said Pasquotank County resident James Fulcher, owner of Twisted Willow Farm. “Two deputies came down my driveway and they ended up seeing him cross over my cow pasture back there and then they spent a couple hours trying to weed him out. They knew he was back in the swamp and then ultimately they caught him.”

Mulford was processed and was to appear before a magistrate Tuesday night to determine the conditions of release.

The other man wanted, Bradley Ferris, 43, was found Wednesday afternoon and taken into custody. That came after the sheriff’s office said the Pasquotank Central Communications got a call around 3:40 p.m. of a White man resembling Ferris knocking on residential doors in the 3100 block of Main St. Ext., about a quarter-mile from the Foxhaven subdivision where they had fled on foot Tuesday.

While sitting on her front porch Wednesday afternoon, Mimi Watkins said she saw someone who looked like Ferris at the corner of Berea Church Road and West Main Street Ext. and called 911.

“He fit the description,” Watkins said. “He was heavy-set and running down the road, and I thought, why would he be doing that? There’s no broken down car, or anything. I thought something was amiss.”

Deputies found Ferris walking on Main St. Ext. trying to get a ride from a passing driver. Ferris, of the 2100 block of Shady Drive, was taken into custody without incident around 3:49 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Ferris was taken to Sentara Albemarle Hospital for treatment for long outdoor exposure and will be taken back to the sheriff’s office for processing before going before a magistrate to determine the conditions of his release.

The sheriff’s office said deputies are still searching for clothing and the rifle used in Tuesday’s incident, and were out looking for that and other evidence Thursday.

They posted on Facebook Thursday morning letting residents know that law enforcement would be in the area to conduct a search to locate items from Tuesday’s incident, and that there is no danger to the public.

The sheriff’s office is continuing the investigation, and said the motive for their actions “are still undetermined at this time.”

Deputies attempted Tuesday to stop a black 2001 Ford F350 Super Duty vehicle near Main Street Ext in Elizabeth City, which then resulted in a vehicle pursuit that lasted about two miles heading north on Main Street Ext., when the vehicle entered the Foxhaven subdivision.

While traveling through the subdivision, officials said two people were inside the vehicle during the pursuit and that “the passenger suspect,” Mulford, brandished a rifle outside the passenger side window and shot about three times toward the pursuing deputy, the sheriff’s office said. The deputy was not injured.

The suspect vehicle then struck a parked vehicle in the Foxhaven subdivision and continued to go through vacant properties until it crashed into the woodline area on Georgia Drive in the Foxhaven subdivision. The suspects then fled on foot into the woods, the sheriff’s office said.

A perimeter was established around the block of woods the suspect fled into, where they pursued the suspects, the sheriff’s office said. Drones and a North Carolina State Highway Patrol helicopter was used in the search, and after a thorough search of the wooded area, the area was deemed to be clear of people, the sheriff’s office said.

An investigation determined that the vehicle the two suspects were in was reported stolen from McDowell County, North Carolina March 17, and they found spent shell casings inside, indicating a rifle was fired.

Also, four cell phones were seized from the suspect vehicle, which was towed from the scene late Tuesday afternoon, and investigators are, at this time, processing the vehicle for more evidence.

A shelter in place message had been issued due to the search for the suspects, according to officials, and it was lifted at 3:30 p.m. These suspects are considered to be armed and dangerous and residents are encouraged to stay inside.

The sheriff’s office described one suspect as a White man, large build, weighing about 250 pounds and has balding hair, last seen wearing a dark-colored t-shirt. The other suspect is an unknown man last seen wearing a puffy-style jacket with fur on the trim on the hood. One of the suspects was armed with a rifle when they fled on foot, the sheriff’s office said.
