COROLLA, N.C. (WAVY) — A 12-year-old boy’s body was recovered off the coast of Corolla, Saturday afternoon, according to Currituck County Chief of Fire-EMS Ralph Melton.

Around 12:42 p.m., CCFEMS was initially called to Persimmon Street about a group of people in distress. Officials said all but one of the people was rescued.
The Coast Guard and Ocean Rescue assisted with the search effort. Video from a WAVY viewer shows a Coast Guard helicopter hovering above the scene.
On Tuesday, Melton identified the boy as Amir Abou of Woodbine, Maryland.
