GATES COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — One person is in custody following a barricade situation in Gates County Monday evening, the Gates County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to officials, deputies were dispatched to US 13 South and Barfield Road for reports of gunshots.

While deputies attempted to take Hagos into custody, he became combative and tried to disarm a deputy of their firearm. Hagos then fled into his residence, according to deputies.

Hagos was successfully taken into custody after a four hour standoff, and was charged with three counts of assault on a government official, three counts of resisting a public officer and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.

The Gates County Sheriff’s Office expressed its appreciation for the assistance provided by the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, who all responded to the scene in the area of U.S. Route 13 South and Barfield Road. People were asked to stay away from that area during the active situation.

Hagos is currently at the Albemarle District Jail under a $100,000 bond.

The investigation is still considered ongoing, and additional charges may be pending.
