HERTFORD, N.C. (WAVY) — A Hertford, North Carolina woman faces charges in connection to the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol.
According to the FBI, a hotel key card from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel was found during clean-up efforts three days after the attack. Hotel records revealed the key was linked to a reservation made by Sandra Lee Hodges of Hertford N.C.
After confirming the number belonged to Hodges, the FBI began to investigate whether she indeed participated in the attack on the Capitol.
On April 6, 2023, during an interview with FBI agents at her home, Hodges admitted to going inside the Capitol.
Hodges told agents she drove to Washington D.C. on Jan. 5, 2021. She also said she stopped in Virginia Beach to pick up a friend she met online just a few days prior, although she couldn’t remember the friend’s name.
Court documents show Hodges joined a crowd gathering on the West Plaza and was later seen exiting the Capitol. The federal documents have several images of Hodges, wearing a blue coat and at times a red ball cap, captured on publicly available video and Capitol surveillance footage from that day.
The document was filed on Jan. 26, 2024.
Hodges faces four federal criminal offenses.
