Bertie County deputies make drug arrest after traffic stop

BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A traffic stop led to a drug arrest, according to the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday, a Bertie County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over a vehicle for speeding. When deputies approached the vehicle they smelled marijuana.


After searching the vehicle, deputies found more than three grams of powder cocaine, more than two grams of crack cocaine and 32 grams of marijuana.

The driver, Demesso Rashawn Gatling, of Lewiston, was charged with PWISD cocaine, maintain vehicle for controlled substance, possess marijuana and speeding.
