NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 30-year-old Norfolk police officer passed away on Friday after fighting an unknown illness that left doctors bewildered.
The Norfolk Police Department posted about the loss of Seth Amos on their Twitter account Saturday.

Amos had been fighting the mystery illness for a little over a month, which began when he started to have trouble breathing.
He took many trips to the hospital, unable to find an answer to the pain he felt in his lungs. “It’s the equivalent of running like marathon after marathon after marathon, night and day for over two weeks,” described Chris Amos, Seth’s dad, a retired Norfolk police officer.
On Sept. 17, Amos’s lungs collapsed and he was taken from Sentara Leigh to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for an emergency procedure that would keep him alive for another month.
“They brought everybody into his room,” Chris Amos told 10 On Your Side. “The doctor came out afterwards and said the procedure went well, he’s stable, thank God, he is stable. But he would tell us that he wouldn’t have survived the trip from the second floor to the third floor operating room. He had a foot in heaven.”
Four days later, Amos was transported with an escort of Norfolk police and state troopers to Inova Health in northern Virginia. Doctors at the facility found problems with his kidneys, making him ineligible for a lung transplant.
Seth Amos died on his father’s birthday. “He has fought an epic fight and finished his race. Seth has crossed the finish line and has made it to his forever home,” Chris posted on his Facebook.
