Newport News woman charged with assaulting 2 family members

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A 22-year-old was arrested after she allegedly assaulted two of her family members on Wednesday, including a 3-year-old boy. 

Newport News police say they were dispatched to the 400 block of North Trellis Court just before 1 a.m. in reference to a domestic assault. 


Officers made contact with the 41-year-old victim, a person who claimed to witness the assault and the alleged offender, identified as Shaziya Jones. Two children were also found inside the home, one of which was the 3-year-old victim. 

The 41-year-old victim had scratches on her arm, bruising on her neck and a bite injury on her forearm, according to police. There weren’t any visible injuries to the 3-year-old boy. 

Police also observed broken glass, soil or dirt and the remnants of a pot in the center of the home’s living room area.

According to a report of the events to police, Jones and the 41-year-old victim had an altercation that turned physical. The witness intervened when he says Jones hit the 3-year-old victim while she was trying to hit the 41-year-old.  

Jones left the home and returned to assault the 41-year-old victim again, according to a report to police. 

Jones was charged with two counts of malicious wounding and assault on a family member.
