NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News man is facing charges for allegedly threatening to shoot a relative and assaulting a police officer.
Newport News police say officers called to the 13200 block of Margaux Circle on Jan. 13 spoke with a female, who claimed a family member had threatened to shoot her.
While officers were on scene the alleged suspect, 34-year-old Devin Matheny, walked toward the door with a loaded crossbow.
Matheny dropped the crossbow after being ordered to do so by officers, police say.
Police say when they tried to arrest matheny, he punched an officer in the nose. A syringe was found inside his pocket after officers arrested him.
Officers also found a marijuana plant during a search of the home.
Matheny is charged with assault, assault on law enforcement and manufacturing marijuana.
