VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Lynnhaven Inlet is now lit up at night like never before, thanks to a multi-million dollar new bridge.

Wednesday afternoon, Virginia Beach leaders past and present cut the ribbon to dedicate the $115 million Lesner Bridge.

It took four years to build and has the capacity to handle six total lanes of traffic. It also includes 10-foot wide paths that can be used by pedestrians or bikes. However, the most noticeable feature are the changing LED lights that adorn the columns and side exterior of the bridge.

“Tonight, we are seeing a 4th of July theme we are playing on the bridge,” said Chris Wojtowicz, the project manager.  “But as the year goes on, we have Valentine’s Day, we have New Year’s, St Patrick’s Day so people should come on out here look at the bridge on those holidays.”

The light feature was designed by Randy Burkett, who has lit other structures across the country.
