(NewsNation) — With the 2024 general election fast approaching on Nov. 5, many Americans will look to vote early to avoid Election Day lines and potential confusion.

The early voting windows vary by state, with some states like Minnesota opening in-person and absentee voting as early as Sept. 20.

Here’s a look at when early voting begins in all 50 states along with information on how to register to vote and how to check your registration status in your state.

Alabama

Alabama does not have early voting.

Alaska

Early voting in Alaska for the November general election begins Oct. 21 and will continue though Election Day.

Arizona

Early voting in Arizona will begin Oct. 9 and will end Nov. 1.

Arkansas

Early voting in Arkansas begins Oct. 21 and ends Nov. 4.

California

Early voting begins Oct. 7 but varies by county. Voters should contact their county elections office to see if they offer early voting.

California’s voter registration deadline for the general election is Oct. 21 for online and mail registration, and Nov. 5 for in-person registration.

To register to vote in California:

  • Submit the California voter registration application electronically
  • For those who want to register using a paper voter registration application, you can pick one up at your county elections office, library, Department of Motor Vehicles offices or U.S. post office. The application must be filled out and postmarked or hand-delivered to your county elections office at least 15 days before the general election.
  • Register to vote in person on Election Day at your county’s elections office, polling place or vote center — otherwise known as Same Day Voter Registration.

Colorado

Colorado has all mail voting, but in-person voting centers are open beginning Oct. 21 and will continue through Election Day on Nov. 5.

Early voting begins Sept. 26 and ends Nov. 4.

Mississippi

Missouri offers in-person no-excuse absentee voting at locations designated by local county election authorities starting Oct 22. A qualifying photo ID is required to vote by no-excuse absentee ballot in person.
