HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – If you are looking for something fun and affordable to do with your kids this summer, how about catching a movie?

10 On Your Side has compiled a list of movie theaters across Hampton Roads offering great deals as well as outdoor movie nights.


Movie theater deals

Regal Summer Movie Express: Get $1 family movies for summer break all season long! Each week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 11 a.m. you can get Summer Movie Express tickets for $1 as family movies return to the big screen. The deal runs through August 7 at all participating theatres. Plus, enjoy a special $5 Snack Pack. The food and beverage deal includes a junior-sized drink, snack-sized popcorn and fruit snacks, with an optional Dippin’ Dots addition for $3.

Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse: Now through August 15, Cinemark has summer fun featuring moves for kids. At participating theaters, watch family-friendly films for $1.75 (plus tax) for each movie. There will also be discounts on kids’ snack packs as well as popcorn and drink combinations.

AMC Theatres: is inviting moviegoers to beat the heat with a series of family-friendly classics returning to the silver screen, with ticket prices as low as $3!

Downing Gross Cultural Arts Center: This summer, enjoy a free movie and popcorn as part of the Downing Gross Cultural Arts Center Summer Movie Series. The Arts Center is located at 2410 Wickham Avenue in Newport News. The movies start at 2 p.m. in the Ella Fitzgerald Theater. Space is limited; it’s first come, first served.

Main Gate Free Family Movies: Free 10 a.m. showings every showings every Tues, Wednesday & Thursday. Doors open at 9 a.m. Main Gate Movies is located at 10 Phoenix Theatres, 1500 Mall Drive, in Norfolk.

Naro Theater Kid Flicks: The Naro in Norfolk presents Kids Flicks Sundays at noon and Wednesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. from June 16 – August 15, 2024. All tickets are $5! Naro ticket books are also accepted.

Barry Art Museum Summer Movie Series: Second Fridays are U-Nite at the Barry Art Museum, at Old Dominion University in Norfolk. The Barry Art Museum is located at 1075 West 43rd Street. Screenings are at 8 p.m. Free and open to the public!

Outdoor movie nights

Monday Movie Nights on the Lawn: The Cavalier Resort hosts movie nights on Monday nights this summer on the Great Lawn. Bring blankets and lawn chairs to relax and enjoy the films. Popcorn will be available at the hotel. The nights are open to the public and begin at sunset. It takes place seasonally through September from around 8-10 p.m.

Saturday Cinema in Suffolk: Suffolk Parks and Recreation presents Saturday Cinema this summer. On six Saturdays through October, the city has scheduled movie events. Two hours before the events begin, enjoy activities on-site. Admission is free. Children must be accompanied. Locations include a variety of parks across the city.

  • July 27: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” (PG), Holland Park, 6720 Ruritan Blvd. Movie starts at 8:15 p.m.
