PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – WAVY TV 10 welcomes Meteorologist Jeff Edmondson back to WAVY News 10 and the most experienced weather team in Hampton Roads.

Edmondson left the Super Doppler 10 Weather Team in the Winter of 2015 and he returns just in time to navigate a roller-coaster season of temperatures.

Edmondson brings his experience forecasting blizzards and is no stranger to the fast-changing conditions of Hampton Roads. He is a seasoned forecaster, having spent considerable time covering Nor’easters, tornadoes and in 2012, Hurricane Sandy. Additionally, in 2014 he received the prestigious American Meteorological Society Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal.

Edmondson returns on Wednesday, January 30, making his debut on WAVY News 10 at 4 p.m. He will forecast Wednesday through Friday at 4 p.m. and on WAVY News 10 at 7 p.m. on FOX43 as well as weekend evenings on WAVY News 10 at 6 p.m.,WAVY News 10 at 10 p.m. on FOX43 and on WAVY News 10 at 11 p.m.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Jeff’s caliber rejoin our Super Doppler 10 Weather team,” said WAVY-TV 10, WVBT-TV FOX43 News Director Mark Kurtz. “Jeff is fun, smart and experienced. His conversational forecasting expands the depth of knowledge on an already veteran team.”

Edmondson said the biggest reason he decided to return to WAVY-TV, WVBT-TV FOX43 was for the true team atmosphere and vast experience of working alongside Chief Meteorologist Don Slater and Meteorologist Jeremy Wheeler. Combined, the two have nearly 50 years of experience forecasting weather in Hampton Roads.

WAVY News 10 Today Weekend Morning Meteorologist, Casey Lahecka, joined the team last year. She will forecast for WAVY News 10 at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and Edmondson will be in the weather center on WAVY News 10 at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Super Doppler 10 Chief Meteorologist Don Slater said Edmondson is the perfect complement to the team of four. “Since Jeff has previously lived here, he’s got a big head start showing you how the weather will affect your day,” said Slater.

“Jeff is a great guy and has already proven himself in this area,” said WAVY News 10 Today Weekday Morning Meteorologist Jeremy Wheeler. “It is wonderful to get him back with even more Winter weather experience!”

Edmondson said he enjoys being back in Hampton Roads and closer to the beach environment he loves. “I love the area, the seasons and I love to surf,” said Edmondson. “I can’t wait to get on-air in the Super Doppler 10 Weather Center, see friends and viewers again.”

Edmondson got his start in forecasting at KBJR-TV in Duluth, Minnesota. He received a degree in Meteorology from Iowa State University.

In his off-time, Edmondson enjoys the outdoors, taking walks with his two dogs, surfing and kitesurfing.

He also looks forward to speaking with children and helping cultivate their love for science, meteorology and astronomy. To schedule an appearance at a school near you, visit our 10 On Your Side’s speaker’s bureau section.
