CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Organizers describe it as a “whale of a sale.”

This weekend, if you are a fan of a good rummage sale, then you’re going to want to head to the Chesapeake Conference Center. The Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach (JLNVB) is bringing back “Tidewater’s Finest Garage Sale” after a decades-long hiatus, as part of the organization’s centennial year.

This is an event for bargain shoppers. There will be new and gently used items for sale, all donated by Junior League members and the public.

The first “Whale of a Sale” was in 1975 at the Perry Buick Warehouse in Norfolk.

This year’s event is happening from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Chesapeake Conference Center, on Saturday, Nov. 2. It’s free to enter and start shopping, but if you want a head start, you can purchase an Early Access Pass for $20. That gets you through the doors at 8 a.m. and includes a reusable tote bag to help you carry your deals. There are only 50 Early Access Passes, available at this link.

All sales are final.

“Founded in 1925, the Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach has been a force for good,
empowering women to be transformational leaders in the local community for nearly a century,”
said Jillian Goodwin, JLNVB’s President. “Whale of a Sale is about more than just raising money; it is also a celebration of our past legacy, and a commitment to our league’s future impact.”

JLNVB will also be collecting donations for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia at the event. Shoppers are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to donate.
