NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man who was previously convicted of a felony was sentenced to over three years in prison for possessing a firearm.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 43-year-old Kenneth S. Pressley was taken into custody following an incident in May 2018 in Newport News.
Prosecutors said officers tried to stop a vehicle after a driver did not use a turn signal.
The driver eventually pulled over and officers saw Pressley get out of the passenger side while he was “clutching both of his hands at the center of his waistband” and run from the scene.

Prosecutors said an officer chased Pressley into the backyard of a home, where they saw him bend over at the waist before hearing a shot fired.
Pressley ultimately surrendered to police after he continued to run for a short distance.
Prosecutors said officers later recovered a Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun, which was loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition, as well as a bullet Pressley had fired.
Pressley was sentenced late last week to three years in prison.
