Man gets 23 years in 2017 Portsmouth homicide

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man convicted of shooting and killing another man in Portsmouth is facing more than 20 years in prison.

Stanlee S. Jones was sentenced Tuesday to 23 years — which was recommended by jurors during a trial in early February. Jones got 20 years for first-degree murder and three years for use of a firearm in a felony.

Police charged Jones for the shooting death of 34-year-old Curtis A. Richardson at a Portsmouth store. Surveillance video showed a man driving a gold four-door Volkswagen Passat pull up to the store, get out and point a gun at a man sitting outside.

Jones was later caught in New Jersey last August, according to the U.S. Marshals.
