CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A man died after authorities say he crashed off North Carolina Highway 34 in Currituck County over the weekend.
North Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened 2:30 p.m. near Snowden Road on March 31.
Tobe Ruffin, 29, was driving around a curve on N.C. 34 when he lost control, drifted to the left and overturned into a ditch of water. There were no other passengers in the car, highway patrol said.
Ruffin was a former deputy with the Gates County Sheriff’s Office.
The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
