NORFOLK, Va, (WAVY) — A man was stopped at Norfolk International Airport (ORF) after having a loaded gun during a checkpoint early Friday morning.

He was cited by airport police on a weapons charge after TSA officers caught the man with the gun in his carry-on bag. 

Police say the gun was loaded with eight bullets, including one in the chamber. 

TSA immediately contacted the Norfolk Airport Authority Police, who then confiscated the gun.

TSA reminds everyone that individuals who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to federal civil penalties of up to $13,000. A typical first offense for carrying a handgun into a checkpoint is $3,900. You can find the complete list of penalties here.
