YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) – Well over 1,000 people filled the track and football field at Tabb High School Sunday night, to remember three students killed in a violent crash.
“It looked like the car had gone through a wood chipper,” said Jordan Judge, whose close friend died in the crash.
Virginia State Police say the accident happened around 10:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Yorktown Rd. Saturday night.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 16-year-old boy was driving a 2015 BMW 325i westbound on Yorktown Road, east of Cardinal Lane, when he lost control of the car, went off the road and struck a tree, police said.
The impact with the tree caused the car to overturn on its roof. The driver died instantly. Two other 16-year-old boys, one sitting in the front passenger’s seat and the other in the back seat, also died as a result of the crash. There were no other passengers in the car, according to police.
While police did not release the names of the students, WAVY.com has confirmed their names were Connor, Logan and Naile.
A spokeswoman for York County Schools confirmed to WAVY.com that the three 16-year-olds were Tabb High School students.
The York County School Division’s superintendent Dr. Victor Shandor released the following statement:
I am terribly saddened by the loss of these three young men. On behalf of everyone here in the York County School Division and our community, I want to express our heartfelt sympathies for the families affected by this tragedy. Division staff are working closely with Mr. Rice and school administrators to provide support and resources for our students, staff and school community.”
“He was a ball of excitement you would love to be around Naile, I promise you that,” Judge said.
“He was just a good-looking boy that wanted to have fun and wanted to live his life and you know it got cut short early. It’s tragic and I’m not sure we’ll ever fully recover from it,” said friend Emmanuel Lentz.
The York Poquoson Sheriff’s Office posted a traffic alert to Facebook Monday advising citizens who want to stop by the scene of the crash to pay respects to use extreme caution.
