Williamsburg invites community to input meeting for African American Heritage Trail

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – The City of Williamsburg is partnering with The African American Heritage Trail Advisory Committee and is inviting the community to a input meeting.

Starting Thursday, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Stryker Center, the Advisory Committee will develop a Trail narrative that will feature JMI, the marketing firm selected to help develop the Trail, the Trail narrative and ways that the community can continue to help contribute.

Since 2020, the African American Trail has documented outlines to a two-year workplan for the City’s Goals, Initiatives, and Outcomes (GIOs).

In Jan. 2023, the federal government passed legislation that includes $357,000 for Phase 1 of the City’s African American Heritage Trail. This will include the construction of the trailhead at Lafayette Street, a public restroom and the first segment of the trail from the Lafayette Street to Scotland Street.

On June 4, 2024, JMI and Share More Stories met with the community for a kickoff event.
