YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) — A man wanted out of Isle of Wight County was arrested after an hourslong standoff in Yorktown.
The barricade situation started early Monday morning just after midnight, when Isle of Wight deputies asked the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office to be on the lookout for 39-year-old Joseph Warren Harrington. He was wanted for multiple felonies, including abduction, strangulation/child abuse and multiple weapons charges related to a domestic assault around 11 p.m. Sunday on St. Catherine Drive in Carrollton, authorities say.
York-Poquoson deputies say they found Harrington as he was entering a home in the 100 block of Court Road in Yorktown. He refused to leave, prompting hours of negotiations.
Eventually, around 10 a.m., members of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team entered the home and found Harrington hiding in a closet. He was taken into custody and turned over to the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed.
Isle of Wight deputies say he’s currently at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail and is waiting to be transferred to a local facility.
