VSP: Norfolk woman killed in 3-vehicle crash on HRBT

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk woman has died following a three-vehicle crash Wednesday on Interstate 64 westbound east of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel entrance, Virginia State Police said.

Tonya Denise Hinkle, 49, of Norfolk, died in the crash, according to State Police, who said they had notified next-of-kin.


The crash took place at 2:13 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-64 east of the mouth of the tunnel in Hampton, according to State Police.

State Police said the driver of a 2024 Volkswagen Jetta, Hinkle, was driving in the left lane when she struck a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe from the rear, and upon impact, the Jetta went off the road and struck the Jersey wall and was pushed back into traffic, where it then struck a 2012 Ford F-150.

Hinkle was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she later died as a result of her injuries, State Police said, while the drivers of the Hyundai and the F-150 suffered minor injuries.

State Police said the crash is still under investigation.
