VB’s Lesner Bridge, Norfolk’s Wells Fargo building light up yellow and blue in support of Ukraine

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Lesner Bridge is lighting up in yellow and blue to show support for Ukraine amid the ongoing attacks from Russia.

In a unanimous vote Tuesday evening, members of the Virginia Beach City Council all agreed to make bridge lights shine in solidarity with Ukrainians affected by the ongoing Russian invasion.

The resolution was brought forth by Mayor Bobby Dyer, whose grandparents immigrated to the United States from Ukraine.

The 1,575-foot bridge spans the Lynnhaven Inlet at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. It joins several famous landmarks across the globe that have lit up in the national blue and yellow of the Ukrainian flag including the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Empire State Building in New York City and the Colosseum in Rome

Virginia Beach is not alone in Hampton Roads showing unity with Ukraine. Just days prior, Ukrainians and supporters in Norfolk carried handmade signs and sang songs in their native tongues in unity with Ukraine.

The Wells Fargo building in Norfolk was also seen lit up Wednesday night with blue and yellow.
