Virginia Beach recruiting firefighters

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach Fire Department needs new recruits.

All you need to apply is a high school diploma and a driver’s license.

Leaders at fire departments across Hampton Roads say they need firefighters, and they’re having a hard time getting recruits.

“If you have a positive attitude and willingness to work and a willingness to learn our training staff will provide you with all the skills to make you successful,” said Capt. Dustin Lyle with the Virginia Beach Fire Department. “I have an amazing staff over at the fire training center and we will equip you with everything you need to become successful in this career. We are looking for people to serve their community.”

Recruits make a little more than $49,000 per year when they are going through the fire academy, and the annual pay goes up when you graduate.
