VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach police say a 21-year-old man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after another man was fatally shot on May 16 at the Atlantis Apartments.

According to police, the shooting occurred in the 100 block of Sea Cove Court around 12:49 a.m.

The victim, identified as 18-year-old Javion Jarvis, was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police later arrested 21-year-old Leionte Smith in connection with the shooting. He was initially only charged with discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling and later released.

Police said additional charges were pending, and in an update on May 26 they said he was taken into custody without incident on May 25 on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

The case is still under investigation and police haven’t released additional details.
