VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach Police have arrested the driver of the vehicle they say was responsible for a crash Wednesday morning that killed two of his passengers.
VBPD said the single-vehicle crash occurred at the 2900 block of Shipps Corner Road around 12:32 a.m.
Shipps Corner Road, between Skylark Drive and Old Clubhouse Road near Oceana, was closed for much of the morning Wednesday due to the crash.
An image of the scene showed emergency vehicles blocking off the road and a black pick-up truck with severe damage.
On Thursday, VBPD released additional information about the crash and announced an arrest.
When officers arrived on scene, they located two passengers inside the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead. Police identified the passengers as 32-year-old Francisco Bisono IV (M/32) and 49-year-old Shawn Babonis, both of Virginia Beach.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the crash. Police identified the driver as 36-year-old Adam Cieniewicz and issued a warrant for his arrest. Cieniewicz was arrested later in the day without incident and charged with felony hit-and-run. Police say additional charges are expected.
