VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The Virginia Beach Police Department responded to a crash involving a pedestrian early Wednesday morning.

According to officials, the first call about the crash at Lynnhaven Parkway and Primrose Lane came in around 6:41 a.m.

The pedestrian, a 25-year-old woman, was transferred to a local hospital with severe injuries. She is in critical condition, WAVY confirmed.

“The driver stayed on scene. The driver was cooperating. The driver was not transported,” said Ricky LaBlue, Virginia Beach Police Department Media and Communications Coordinator.

10 On Your Side’s KaMaria Braye was there and took pictures of the scene, which showed a heavy police presence and the road blocked off. A damaged white car was parked on the side the road on Lynnhaven Parkway near Crimson Holy Lane. There were skid marks by the car. The airbags were deployed and the windshield was shattered.

Forensics took photos of sandals on the road. The shoes were on the opposite side of the road as the car.

Lynnhaven Parkway, from Primrose Lane to Holland Road was closed in both directions as a result of the accident, but all lanes have since reopened.

The VBPD Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash.

The department wants to remind drivers and pedestrians to be careful of each other.

“We always recommend folks use crosswalks. That’s going to be the safest thing to do. We always recommend that drivers are careful of where they’re going and they’re cognizant of what’s around them. But those are the two most important things. Crosswalks are really important and that’s going to be the safest way,” LaBlue said.
