VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach Neptune Festival organizers have created a unique opportunity for children to celebrate the festival’s 50th anniversary.
The event, called the “Young Collectors: Art Gallery for Kids,” aims to foster an interest in the arts at a young age by allowing kids to start their very own art collection.
Children ages 6-12 will be able to take home a professional work of art for just $5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on 25th Street, both Saturday and Sunday, the 28th and 29th.
“It’s an opportunity for kids 6 to 12 years old to visit our special tent here on the boardwalk, where they go in by themselves, supervised of course, and for $5, they can pick out their very first piece of art,” Festival President and Chief Executive Officer Kit Chope said. “They can look at what speaks to them, and maybe that’ll foster a lifelong passion in the arts.
Chope also said art plays a huge role in the past, present and future of the Neptune Festival, so organizers wanted to create something to spark a love of art within children.
Several artists donated pieces of their artwork for the event.
