Winners of Coastal Edge Shoot the Pier surf contest announced

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Over 200 surfers took to the water Saturday for some gnarly competition in the Coastal Edge Shoot the Pier contest.

Surfers competed in qualifying heats in order to move on to the finals on Sunday. Some of the pros competing for big money this weekend included Bo Raynor, Wes Laine Jr., Billy McGarry and Virginia Beach’s on JB2 Super Grom Bayer.

The contest was originally scheduled to take place during the inaugural Beach It! country music festival, but was postponed because of the weather.

Thankfully, on Saturday the event was able to beat the string of wet weather in the area and crowned the winners of the competition.

For the 3rd year in a row, Mens Shortboard champion Bo Raynor from Wilmington, North Carolina took home the prize for his division.
