VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The second-annual Beach Blanket Movie Festival is this week at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

Starting Tuesday, July 16 watch free movies right on the sand at 29th Street. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. nightly.

This year’s theme is “Jurassic Experience”. Watch family-favorites, sure to entertain the whole crowd! There will even be themed dinosaur displays.

WAVY asked Mike Hilton, the program manager for the event, why dinosaurs? “Well, who doesn’t love dinosaurs. I think children all the way up through adults, there’s always been a fascination with dinosaurs. And there are just so many good movies that are dinosaur themed that actually are appropriate for a lot of different audiences.”

Here’s the move schedule, below:

  • Tuesday, July 16: Dinosaur (PG)
  • Wednesday, July 17: Jurassic Park (PG-13)
  • Thursday, July 18: The Land Before Time (G)
  • Friday, July 19: The Good Dinosaur (PG)
  • Saturday, July 20: Jurassic World (PG-13)

Popcorn and other snacks will be for sale. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to sit and watch the films. It is free and open to the public.

“Actually being able to spread out on a beach blanket or to put your beach chair in the middle of the beach and to watch a movie under the stars with the ocean in the background is just such a unique thing that we wanted to take advantage of at the Oceanfront. And it just something people love,” said Hilton.
