VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Business was supposed to be booming this weekend on the Oceanfront, but postponement of the Something In The Water Festival has left many wondering what the plan is now.

“Even if you want to knock Something In The Water getting postponed and stuff, all it did was make a whole other opportunity,” said a local event coordinator for Bugman Productions.

Several local organizers and event planners have come together for what they’re calling The Pulse Music and Arts festival, taking place this weekend — Oct. 11 through Oct. 13.

“So Pulse Fest is a three-day independent artist festival, just highlighting the independent artists in the area,” said Event Curator Capri Lawrence, “celebrating our culture, our independent scene.”

The largely free event will feature concerts on the Oceanfront’s 17th and 24th Street stages, along with a block party and art shows in an effort to provide entertainment for those already planning to be in the area. It’ll also provide some relief for businesses who were expecting big crowds.

“It should bring a whole bunch of people I’m hoping,” said Ocean’s 14 and Ocean’s Ale bartender Abby Laurendeau. “We’ve got the after party here at Ocean’s 14 so it should be pretty good.”

“I know they were expecting a big weekend, so hopefully we can help them fill their pockets,” Lawrence said.

Community support is what makes any festival a success.

“We have game night, a bunch of DJ’s,” Lawrence said. ” it’s going to be a vibe.”
