VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Roads saw a lot of rain Saturday as residents experienced flooding, power outages, and high waters throughout much of the region.
WAVY News 10’s Meteorologist Jeff Edmondson says more rain is expected into Sunday. The heaviest rain will be in the morning, but again in the afternoon and lingering showers are likely.
Rain totals include over two feet of water over the roads in the Colony Pines neighborhood in Newport News!
Slow-moving thunderstorms could produce twice that amount, and that could lead to flash flooding.

- York County, until 8 a.m. Sunday
Flood Warnings:
A flood warning has been issued for parts of Suffolk until 1:15 a.m. Just after 10:15 p.m., reporting gauges indicate flooding along the Nansemond River at Suffolk. Minor flooding will occur over the next few hours.
Flooding is occurring along the Nansemond River at Suffolk. As of 10 p.m., the river was at 5.5 feet, which is a minor flood stage. At 5.5 feet, shallow flooding is expected in vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline resulting in a low threat of property damage.
Stay off the water at the James River from Jamestown to the James River Bridge. NWS issued Special Marine Warning until 10:45 p.m. which means wind 34+ KTS and potential waterspouts. Steep waves are also possible – seek safe harbor.
North Carolina

- Northwestern Bertie County, until 9:15 p.m.
- Northwestern Chowan County, until 9:15 p.m.
- Southeastern Gates County, until 9:15 p.m.

Traffic Alerts & Flooding Closures
Orbit Road in Windsor (Isle of Wight County) closed Saturday night due to a massive hole that developed in the middle of the roadway overnight following heavy rain in the area.
“Here is a perfect example of why not to drive through water over a roadway. This hole would hold an entire car,” said Sheriff’s Office officials.
Please avoid the area if possible.
Indian Creek Road in Chesapeake is closed at the 2100 block (southeast of Sanderson Rd) due to flooding. Standing water eastbound on US-460 (East Windsor Boulevard) in Windsor causing delays.
All eastbound and westbound lanes of VA-10 at mile marker 53 in Surry County were also closed due to standing water on the westbound lane.
Surry County standing water report as of Sunday at 6 p.m.:
Motorists experienced delays on I-664 North in Newport News near mile marker 5.2 due to standing water. The north exit ramp was closed and the exit ramp at exit 6 was blocked.
Virginia Beach Police said a portion of Rosemont Road between Silina Drive and Clubhouse Road was closed due to high water. Nearby residents told 10 On Your Side that the roads were so flooded that motorists were turning around on the median or even stopping on the median to wait out the water.

As of 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dominion Energy is reporting that nearly 165 Southeastern Virginia residents are experiencing power outages throughout Hampton Roads. Report and check outages here.

Damages
Significant flooding occurred in Newport News and 10 On Your Side spoke with resident Tiffany Lewis who said her entire backyard was flooded due to the heavy rain. Pictures below show the strength from the flood current as it wiped out parts of her fence.
Lewis said that the water reached nearly two feet into her shed and damaged her generator, lawn care equipment, and washer and dryer. She estimates about $10,000 in damages.
