Police: Man dies following shooting on Garfield Ave. in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A man has died following a shooting late Thursday evening on Garfield Avenue in Virginia Beach near Rosemont Road, Virginia Beach Police said.

The call for the shooting came in around 11:24 p.m. in the 700 block of Garfield Avenue, which is a largely residential area. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as 20-year-old Lonnie Harvey Jr., of Virginia Beach.

As of Friday afternoon, there’s still no suspect information in the case.

During the crime scene investigation, police laid out at least 28 evidence markers. Some of the evidence markers were next to clothes.

One neighbor spoke with 10 On Your Side and said the he’s been here for a couple of weeks and that the shooting woke him up.

“In the middle of the night I heard like 15 gunshots. I’m not sure why I counted them, but I did count 15. They all sounded the same, so I don’t think there was like people firing at each other I think it was all from one person,” Daniel Haight said.

The investigation is ongoing.
