Mural celebrates 50 years of Neptune Festival

VIRGINIA BEACH. Va. (WAVY) — Celebrating 50 years at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, the Neptune Festival hosts dozens of events in the Resort City each year, and, in honor of its golden jubilee, it unveiled a massive mural on 30th Street by Virginia Beach artist Devon Miller.

Miller, an art teacher at First Colonial High School, put together a 51-foot long painting filled with all the aspects of the festival, from wine glasses, to a sand castle, and even showing off the arts and craft show.

For Kit Chope, Neptune Festival president and CEO, it was important to have the mural done this year.

“I think public art is important — that you could take pride in, whether you are a visitor or a local,” Chope said.

If you want to take a look, you can find it on 30th Street where the old ABC Store was located, which is now Coastal Vet.

The Neptune Festival is Sept. 27 through Sept. 29.
