VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A motorcyclist killed in a head-on crash with an SUV Saturday morning in the Pungo area was a teacher with Chesapeake Public Schools, WAVY News has confirmed.
The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the 3600 block of Charity Neck Road, near Beggars Bridge Creek.
The motorcyclist, 41-year-old Dennis Whitby, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and contacted authorities.
No other information has been released about the ongoing investigation.
The principal of Greenbrier Middle School where Whitby was employed as a PE teacher, sent a message to school families Sunday. The message said:
Good afternoon, this is Dr. Mustain, principal of Greenbrier Middle School with an important message.
I am sad to share that one of our PE teachers, Mr. Dennis Whitby, passed away this weekend in a tragic motorcycle accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Whitby’s family during this difficult time and we offer condolences to all the Greenbrier Middle School students and staff members as we mourn this loss together.
