VSP identifies man who died in VB crash after 50+ mile police pursuit

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man died following a high-speed pursuit that spanned more than 50 miles on the Eastern Shore, through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and ended in Virginia Beach with a crash on Shore Drive and Atlantic Avenue.

Around 8:25 p.m., on Feb. 23, state police tried stopping a 2024 black Chevrolet pickup truck for going 92 mph in a 55 speed limit zone, police said.

The driver was heading southbound on Route 13 in Exmore on the Eastern Shore, and didn’t stop. During the pursuit, police discovered the vehicle was reported stolen from New York.

The car entered the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, and the state police supervisor called off the troopers. The Northampton County deputies also halted their pursuit. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Police Department continued pursuing across the bridge and into Virginia Beach.

Virginia Beach local troopers saw the suspect vehicle fleeing from law enforcement and initiated pursuit of the vehicle.

As the pursuit continued down Shore Drive, the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway into the tree line at the intersection of Shore Drive and Atlantic Avenue.

Troopers approached the car to render aid. The driver suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. He initially spoke to troopers, but the man died shortly after from the injuries he suffered.

On Saturday, March 3, police identified the man as 33-year-old Quadri Jackson of Brooklyn, New York. Jackson was also identified as the suspect in a related stabbing and vehicle theft in Brooklyn on the same day as the vehicle pursuit.
