Crews respond to fire in Virginia Beach Saturday morning

VIRGINA BEACH, Va. (WAVY)– Crews in Virginia Beach responded to a fire in the Acredale section early Saturday morning.

According to officials, crews were dispatched to the 5100 block of Westerly Drive at 3:24 a.m. for the report of a two-story residential structure. When crews arrived, they found an RV located between two structures on fire.

No one was in the RV at the time of the fire and residents had evacuated from inside the home.

The fire did not extend to the primary residence, however, the neighboring home sustained water and smoke damage. No one was in the neighboring home during the time of the fire, however, they will be displaced due to the extent of the damage.

“There’s extensive water damage and because the fire was in the roof up in the in the roof, they had to tear down the ceilings in three of the bedrooms. So in doing that, the insulation is all over the place,” said the displaced homeowner Ray Grant.

Grant has lived in his house for nearly four decades. He told 10 On Your Side he will be finding a new place to live for 6 months.

“My major concern was that there are irreplaceable items from my memories and stuff from my wife. I thought they were completely gone because I thought it maybe fire went inside. But fortunately, pictures are intact,” said Grant.

No injuries were reported.

Neighbors across the street said seeing this is tough.

“Joe’s house burned to the ground several years ago. And then he’s basically recovered from that. And now he’s didn’t have any fire damage, just smoke and water damage,” said neighbor David Savage.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
