Vehicles crash into Virginia Beach home; 2 hurt

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A stretch of S Rosemont Road in Virginia Beach reopened Wednesday night, after police investigated a multi-vehicle crash in which two vehicles crashed into a house.

VBPD officials say the crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the corner of Forest Glen Road. The southbound lanes of S Rosemont Rd between Bancroft Drive and Bow Creek Blvd. were closed to traffic for several hours. This is near the Bow Creek Golf Course.

Police say the crash involved three vehicles, including a waste management truck. A home in the 600 block of South Rosemont Road was also struck. Images from the scene show extensive damage to the home and to the vehicles involved.

VBPD Spokesperson Melissa Johnston spoke with the WAVY crew on scene. She confirmed two vehicles crashed on S Rosemont Road. The crash sent them into a third, unoccupied vehicle parked in the driveway. That vehicle was pushed into the house. Another vehicle involved also crashed into the house.

Two people were injured; both adults. Johnston said the injuries were not life-threatening.

The waste truck is equipped with a dash camera. Virginia Beach Police will review the footage to help piece together what happened.

Chopper 10 flew over the scene Wednesday evening. Several hours after the crash, police vehicles still lined the southbound lanes of S Rosemont Road.

WAVY News 10’s Michelle Wolf spoke with the mother of the homeowner. She said no one was home when the crash happened. A senior cat was the home’s only occupant. It’s unclear if the cat survived.

A woman who lives across the street told 10 On Your Side she was out in her front yard with her two German Shepherds when she heard an earth-shattering sound.

“I heard this big old pow wow boom,” said Monie Wells.

The sound had Wells running for help.

“I called 911 immediately, immediately,” Wells stated.

Wells watched as two vehicles and a trash truck plowed into the house across the street.

“It was loud. It was so loud,” Wells said.

Police told WAVY’s Michelle Wolf a city trash truck collided with a black truck on Rosemont. The black truck ultimately flipped and crashed through a man’s living room. A silver truck parked in the driveway was also pushed through the home. The passengers in the black truck were taken to a nearby hospital.

“This street is no joke to be reckoned with,” Wells explained.

Wells has lived off of Forest Glen Road and S Rosemont Road for 23 years. She told us the dangerous driving and speeding need to stop. One Thanksgiving morning a few years ago her own son was hit by a drunk driver on Rosemont. His car flipped across three lanes.

“His car was turned upside down. It’s serious, it’s serious, it’s serious. This road is a dangerous road,” Wells concluded.
