VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The Virginia Beach Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire Friday night that displaced a family of five.

Just before 11:30 on Friday night, VBFD crews were dispatched to a fire at a two-story townhome on Warwick Drive.

According to a release, residents were alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm activation, and heavy smoke was observed from the front of the townhome when fire crews arrived.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist in temporarily relocating the family, and one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

The origin and cause of the fire are currently under investigation.
