Man dead after shooting at Virginia Beach hotel, homicide investigation underway

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach police are investigating a shooting that left a young man dead at a Red Roof Inn in Virginia Beach overnight.

Police said the shooting happened around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Ballard Court, near Greenwich Road and Newtown Road. Police say they are investigating the incident as a homicide.

The victim was identified as 22-year-old Jayden Moore of Virginia Beach.

Currently, police say there is no suspect in custody.

A 10 On Your Side crew at the scene reports that officers appear to be focusing their investigation on the second level of the hotel.

A witness that heard the shooting checked out of the motel mid-morning.

According to the gun violence archive, this would make the 6th deadly shooting in Virginia Beach this year.

Someone familiar with this area said, “there is always something going on what this motel.”

Back in February 2020, WAVY.com reported a Virginia Beach woman murdered her boyfriend at the Red Roof Inn on Ballard Court. Melissa Diaz was sentenced to 31 years in prison.
