VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach man who hit two women with his vehicle in Town Center, killing one of them, will spend seven years behind bars.
Nathan Poole, 26, was sentenced almost exactly two years after the crime, on charges of involuntary manslaughter, DUI maiming and DUI.
In August of 2022, police said Poole hit 76-year-old Rosa Blanco, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her cousin, 79-year-old Conception Blanco, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Both women were in a crosswalk in Virginia Beach Town Center when they were hit.
Police said Poole was high on marijuana. Video surveillance showed Poole never hit the brakes prior to the impact.
On January 3, 2023, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office confirmed the Grand Jury indicted Poole on the following charges: involuntary manslaughter, DUI – victim permanently impaired, and DUI.
During the trial, an officer testified that Poole failed most tests, including walking heel-to-toe, touching his nose and standing on one leg.
The court ordered that following his release, Poole’s driver’s license be suspended indefinitely and that he have no contact with the family, Additionally, he cannot consume alcohol or marijuana.
