HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — The suspect in the armed robbery of a postal worker last month in Virginia Beach was arrested in Hampton, police say.
The Virginia Beach Police Department says 27-year-old Cameron Hunter Brown was arrested on July 17 by the Hampton Police Division, and he was served warrants related to the postal worker incident on Wednesday.
Police credited their Flock license plate reader technology and security cameras in helping with the arrest.
“In addition to the great police work, technology once again aided those efforts with both the Flock camera system and security cameras playing a key role,” said Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate. “By providing real-time data and capturing essential details like vehicle license plates, we can quickly identify suspect vehicles to aid in our investigations. This technology routinely enhances our ability to keep the community safe and ensures that we’re utilizing all means to protect our community.”
The armed robbery took place on July 11 in the 3400 block of Dandelion Crescent in the Green Run area. Police say Brown, of Portsmouth, pulled a gun on the postal worker before robbing him.
Brown and his vehicle were located on July 17 in Hampton, and he was initially charged with felony evade and elude, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of stolen firearm, reckless handling of a firearm and possession of machine gun.
