SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A person is dead after an overnight crash in Suffolk.

It happened just before 3 a.m. on the 4400 block of Holland Road. Crews initially responded to reports of a downed power line that caused a brush fire.

Upon arrival, however, crews discovered a tractor-trailer that had ran off the road and hit several trees. Officials said the cab of the truck was in flames but shipping container was not on fire.

Once the fire was out, firefighter’s located 37-year-old Brandon Teague deceased in the cab of the tractor. According to officials the truck’s saddle tank was ruptured.

Firefighters are working to identify the items inside the shipping container, but point out the shipping container was not involved in the fire.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by Suffolk police and the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin of the fire.
