NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News street has seen two fires this January.

The latest fire on Henry Clay Road happened Sunday, January 21. The Newport News Fire Marshal’s Office says the Newport News Fire Department responded at 5:21 a.m. for the fire at 129 Henry Clay Road.

Heavy smoke was coming from multiple areas of the home when firefighters arrived, and the fire was contained to the attic.

Firefighters were able to make sure all residents, two adults and three children, were safely evacuated with no injuries. They’ll be staying with a relative.

Sunday’s fire came just over two weeks after another fire in 90 block of Henry Clay Road that left a person hurt. That fire was contained to the attic and garage. That fire was ruled accidental, with the most probable cause being discarded smoking material, per Deputy Fire Marshal J.N. Applewhite.

Sunday’s fire is unrelated and does not appear to be suspicious, Applewhite said.
