PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — One man is dead and two others are suffering from gunshot wounds following a shooting incident on Jefferson Street in Portsmouth.

On Sunday, Oct. 20, Portsmouth police responded to a report of a shooting in the 2300 block of Jefferson Street at around 5:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and transported him to a local hospital for treatment.

Two other men involved in the incident were treated at a local hospital as walk-ins.

According to police, one of the walk-in victims, 44-year-old Danyelle Akoya Lee, died as a result of his injuries.

On Tuesday, police announced the arrest of 19-year-old Torian Jamari Sexton in connection with the shooting and homicide.

Sexton has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated malicious wounding and other firearm-related charges.

Portsmouth Police held a RESET walk Tuesday on Jefferson Street, trying to work with neighbors to reduce crime in that area and increase communication.
