PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A popular Portsmouth restaurant is saying goodbye to Olde Towne.
Gosport Tavern, known for its American pub food and friendly ambience, announced Wednesday that it was closing on Saturday, June 22. They said health issues among ownership necessitated the sale of the restaurant’s building at 702 High Street.
“But our hearts are full of appreciation for our loyal customers, the Olde Towne Business Association and the City of Portsmouth for the past 11 years,” they wrote.
It was sad news for many on social media, who said they had some great times, and food, over the years — particularly on jazz nights.
“This breaks my heart. It’s been our date night spot for years,” wrote one fan on Facebook. Another said she used to call the restaurant her living room.
“I will miss the great meatloaf, chicken tenders, mac & cheese, and of course the martinis!” she wrote.
Many of Gosport’s staff members meanwhile will be relocating to Gosport’s sister restaurants, Still Worldly Eclectic Tapas in Olde Towne and The Public House in Ghent.
“Please come see us in the next 10 days for one last meal or beer to say cheers & goodbye.”
