PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A 23-year-old man is dead and a 19-year-old woman is in custody according to Portsmouth police.

On Friday, Feb. 9 around 2:30 p.m., dispatch responded a call for a gunshot wound on the 1000 block of Frederick Boulevard near the Valvoline.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and saw a woman running away from the scene.

Police took the woman, Ahleesha Sykes, into custody and charged her with first degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting in the commission of a felony.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators said Sykes and the victim knew one another and the incident was domestic related.
