PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Rivers Casino Portsmouth has unveiled seven new restaurants and amenities coming to the project.
Rivers Casino Portsmouth General Manager Roy Corby made the announcement Tuesday, accompanied by Human Resources Johnee Ingram and recently-hired team members.
The new restaurants and amenities include a steakhouse exclusive to Portsmouth, an Asian restaurant, Starbucks, Slice Pizzeria, Crossings Cafe, Top Golf and a sports betting place.
“The Top Golf Suites is an amazing facility that is going to sit above the Sportsbook and look down on it,” Corby told WAVY.
Mian, a Rush Street Gaming staple, will also cater to the local crowd Corby said, For Portsmouth specifically we will look at a local menu that will really focus on the Asian population that’s here, so Philippine dishes and things like that.”
Portsmouth Mayor Shannon Glover was on hand and said, “So, this is going to be, no pun intended, a game changer for the city of Portsmouth. ” he added, “It’s going to diversify our economy, it’s going to bring people to our city who traditionally may not have come to the city of Portsmouth.”
State Sen. Louise Lucas, who worked more than 20 years to get gaming legislation passed in the commonwealth, said this is a dream come true for her. “As you can see people are extremely excited, but I don’t think anybody is as excited as I am.”
The new gaming and entertainment complex is set to open early next year on Victory Boulevard, bringing 1,300 new permanent jobs and approximately 1,400 construction jobs to the area.
A job fair is scheduled for Saturday, August 20, at the Portsmouth Sportsplex, 1801 Portsmouth Boulevard, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The $300 million-plus project will feature a casino, BetRivers Sportsbook, premier restaurants, a live entertainment lounge, hotel, and event center.
