PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man wanted in connection with the shooting death of a 2-year-old has turned himself in to authorities.
Detectives say 39-year-old Al Demond McNeil has been charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm and shooting in the commission of a felony.
The 2-year-old male victim was found inside a home in the 2800 block of Deep Creek Boulevard on Wednesday with the gunshot wound. He died on Saturday, police say.
McNeil turned himself in to police on Monday.
Residents in Portsmouth expressed their shock and sadness following the shooting.
“My heart goes out to the family, especially the mother and her baby’s other siblings. I mean it’s crazy,” said Portsmouth resident Rose Olsen. “He is innocent. He doesn’t deserve this. An innocent baby. He ain’t lived his life.”
WAVY News has learned McNeil’s criminal history shows he was found guilty of accessory to gambling and trespassing back in 2003.
