One dead, three injured in overnight Portsmouth shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man is dead and three other people were injured in a shooting overnight on Saturday on Mt. Vernon Avenue.

First responders received a call around 1 a.m., alerting them of a shooting.


Portsmouth Police say when they arrived to the 1100 block of Mt. Vernon Avenue, they found several people shot.

One of the victims, a man, had already passed away by the time medics arrived. He was later identified as 28-year-old Robert E. Artis, Jr. of Portsmouth.

Another man and two women were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
